Persistence

Persistence

I set myself a challenge at the beginning of this month to start sharing my thoughts on weight loss and mindset.

I’d been procrastinating for some time over getting this blog going. Indeed it’s been set up for some time, just not really posted anything on here.

I wanted articles to be perfect with images etc so it looked nice. Yes, it needs tarting up for sure, but this is a new skill that I am learning along the way.

I wanted to set the website up myself as I think people should know how to do these things, particularly at these days.

I don’t think it’s something I’d do again but at least I know the bare bones!

So far, this month This will be post 8 out of 17. Not great.

However, I’m not dwelling on the fact I’ve not hit the target. My view on it so far is that I’ve posted 8 more times than I had before.

Sure, I’ve treated it more of a diary than an info blog but part of what I want to achieve from this exercise is to try and get into a bit of a habit of doing this.

Writing is not something that comes that easily to me. I am more comfortable in front of a spreadsheet.

There have been a few times this month where I have almost knocked the challenge on the head. Once I missed a couple of days I was a little bit disheartened, I’ll be honest.

I thought that I was going to be able to keep it up during my holidays but alas this has proven very difficult.

At home, it is a lot easier. I set aside 5-6 am for stuff like this. I gave myself a break from getting up that early during my week off and exercise had been a priority. Once I was up and about I’d get it out of the way before the wife and kids were up.

I’ve also had technology problems too! I like things to be easy. WordPress on the phone had been a bit testing. However, a though the issues are still there I have chipped away at understanding what’s going on. I now know how to resolve the problem every time it comes up!

My point is, persistence is the key. There will be ups and downs for sure, nothing is perfect.

Understanding and accepting this is half the battle of achieving something and meeting your goals.

My ultimate ambition is to be able to share my insights with you on how I lose, maintain, and approach good weight maintenance.

I’m just a normal guy, just like you. I’ve been fat, and it’s not somewhere I want to go back to.

3 things that keep me going

Setting a goal

Having something that I am working towards always helps. Whether it is losing those few pounds or sitting down and trying to blog every day. having something that I am working towards always focuses my mind

Understand why I am doing somehting

I maintain my weight to keep myself healthy. I also want to ride my bike as fast as I can. I want to get into the habit of writing to share my thoughts with you guys. Understanding why you are doing something, rather than mindlessly doing something without a focused outcome, can help to keep you focused.

Set time for achieving your target

For me, 5-6 in the morning is THE time to make progress. Whether it’s reading and learning something new or writing down my thoughts. This is the time when there are no distractions. No work going on. No kids to attend to. Trying to maintain this while on holiday was never going to work. Looking back on it that part was always going to fail! but… I still managed to get some done, which is better than nothing at all.

Take small steps and keep chipping away at it.
