Brie with truffles

Holy moly…

Quite possibly the best thing I’ve eaten in a long time!

I’m not quite sure how to describe it. It was stinky, gooey and I guess truffly. I don’t think I’ve ever had anything like it but I have to say it was quite exquisite.

It’s was my birthday earlier in the week. Jemma bought some meals from Cote at Home. I have to say this is an excellent service and well worth the money if you fancy a little treat if still won’t fancy venturing out. That being said, it’s also great if you have young children and can’t really get out in the evenings.

Jemma ordered us a 3-course meal but to be honest it went over 2 days!

On Saturday we had:

Rack of lamb

Gratin potatoes

Ratatouille

Chocolate fondant

Creme caramel

On Sunday we had

Demi baguette with butter

Mackerel Rillets

Pate aux cep

Brie aux truffle

It got me thinking about how calorific a 3-course meal can actually be! It’s a good job it’s a treat.

I think that we would have easily polished all of this off in one sitting if we had been out. Quite possibly almost a 2000 calorie meal in one go. And that’s not including alcohol!

We were both pretty conscious of the amount of food, therefore decided to split it over two days. Not something you can really do in a restaurant!

Eating out doesn’t need to be a car crash, that’s for sure. Being mindful of what you are ordering is a start but I say don’t overthink it. If you are out for a special occasion and it’s ok to push the boat out once in a while. Life would be miserable otherwise!
